Add a Brand Template

Brand Templates are a great way to further customize your internal and/ or client facing printouts. Please follow the steps in this article to learn how to add a brand template to your own system.

Access the Printing Preferences Area

Access the Printing Preferences Area

From the Admin menu, navigate to System Set Up > Printing Preferences.

Choose the tab called Brand Templates, and click the Add Brand Template button.

Upload a PDF

On the Add Brand Template window, fill in any required (highlighted in yellow) and optional fields.

  1. Give the brand template a name.
  2. If you have only one office in FP this field will be pre-determined. If you have more than one office, please select which office this brand template is for.
  3. Choose a unit of measurement. Select either inches or millimeters - whatever unit will make more sense for you/ your team to work in.
  4. Optionally add a description of the brand template.
  5. Use the Browse button to choose a PDF from your computer.

Click Save when ready.

Please note:

There are a handful of important caveats to keep in mind when adding Brand Templates to FP

  • The PDF can be a maximum 1Mb in size. You may be able to reduce the file size by ensuring any images within the file are optimized. There are also lots of cool and free applications available via a Google search that will compress your PDF for you [ie. smallpdf.com; pdfcompress.com; ilovepdf.com; online2pdf.com].
  • The Brand should be a minimum 1 page PDF, and be a maximum of 10 pages.
  • You will only be able to print FP content on a maximum of 3 consecutive pages. So for example, you could upload a 5 page brand template, and instruct the system to only print content on pages 2, 3 and 4, leaving pages 1 and 5 to be used as a cover and closing branded page. Or upload a 2 page brand template, and instruct the system to only print content using page 2, leaving page 1 to act as a branded. cover page

Configure

You will now be able to configure the brand template:

  1. Here you will see the options/ data added on the previous window.
  2. You will see the look of your template.
  3. Here you can drag to define both the top/ bottom and both side(s) content border(s). This will also change the values in the top, bottom, right and left margin fields on the right.
  4. You can also drag the small green box to define where the page number should appear. Or un-tick the box on the right to show or not show the page number.

Click Approve & Publish to make this brand template available for use in the My Printouts area.

Note that you will be able to make the most configuration changes to page 1 of any brand template. On page 2 of any brand template you will only be able to adjust the top and bottom of the content border. And on page 3 of any brand template, you will not be able to change anything.

The Brand Template will now be stored under the Brand Templates tab, and marked as Enabled.  This template can now be associated to any custom printouts you create. To learn how to create printouts, please review articles within this chapter: Printouts in FP

Important Note

There is no limit to the number of pages that can be in your PDF Branding Template. The only limitations to consider are:

  1. You can only have 3 Branding Templates enabled at one time (per Office) - unless you add on the FPPrint Plus option. For an additional $49 per month, FP PrintPlus will increase your limit to 8 enabled custom printouts per printout type, and up to 12 enabled custom brand templates.
  2. You can only print your content from FP onto 3 contiguous/ consecutive pages of that Branding Template.
  3. The PDF for the Brand can be a maximum of 1Mb in size. There are lots of free PDF compression products available online that can help reduce the file size of your PDF.

Example of 3+ Page PDF

Let's see how this would all work with a 5 page Branding Template. As before, from the Brand Templates tab under Admin > Printing Preferences, choose the Add Brand Template button.

Give the brand a name, and choose the file from your computer. Click Save when ready.

Please note - the Brand Template PDF cannot exceed 1 Mb in size. To reduce the size of the PDF, please ensure any images within it are optimized.

Page 1 of our Brand is our cover page. We would not want content from an estimate, for example, to print on this page.

Page 5 of our Brand is our back page. We would also no want content to print on this page.

You can configure the content to print on up to 3 contiguous pages - in this example, as I don't want content on page 1 or 5, I've told the Brand to only print content on pages 2 to 4.

Ciick Approve & Publish when ready.

Click Submit.

The new Brand Template will now be stored under the Brand Templates tab, and marked as Enabled.  This template can now be associated to any custom printouts you create.
